‘সাগর কন্যা’ হিসেবে অভিহিত সৌন্দর্যের লীলাভূমি কুয়াকাটা। কুয়াকাটা সমুদ্রসৈকত দক্ষিণ এশিয়ার একমাত্র সমুদ্রসৈকত যেখান থেকে সূর্যোদয় ও সূর্যাস্ত দুটিই দেখা যায়। ২০ কিলোমিটার লম্বা ও ৬ কিলোমিটার চওড়া এই সৈকতকে ঘিরে নানান ভুতুড়ে কাহিনী প্রচলিত আছে।

মুইসুলিপাড়ার বাসিন্দা পিতা ও পুত্র মাছ ধরতে ও জ্বালানী কাঠের ব্যবস্থা করতে গঙ্গামাটির গহীন জঙ্গলে গিয়েছিল। সাগরে যেহেতু সুপেয় পানি নেই, তাই তৃষ্ণা নিবারণার্থে তারা মাটি খুঁড়তে শুরু করে সুপেয় পানির আশায়। একসময় তাদের কোদাল শক্ত কিছুতে আঘাত করে। তারা সোনালি আবরণের একটি কাঠের জার এবং কিছু কারুকাজ করা সোনার পাত খুঁজে পান। আরো খুঁড়াখুঁড়ি করার পর তারা বালিতে গেঁথে থাকা সোনা ও ধনরত্ন বোঝাই পুরনো একটি নৌকার হদিস পান। সূর্যাস্তের সময় প্রায় হয়ে যাওয়ায় সেদিনকার মতো কাজে ক্ষান্ত দিয়ে ফিরে যাবার সিদ্ধান্ত নেন তারা।

পরদিন ভোর সকালে এসে আবার কাজ করবেন ভেবে সেদিনের মতো তারা সেখান থেকে চলে যান। কিন্তু তাদের জীবনে আর কোনো নতুন সকাল আসেনি। ফেরার পথে রহস্যজনকভাবে মৃত্যু হয় পিতা-পুত্রের। জনশ্রুতি আছে, সোনাবোঝাই নৌকোটি অভিশপ্ত, যে-ই তার অনুসন্ধান করবে অপঘাতে মারা পড়বে সে। আরো কিছু ঘটে যাওয়া ঘটনা স্থানীয়দের এই বিশ্বাসকে মজবুত করেছে।

এমনও বলা হয় সেই পিতা-পুত্রের আত্মা হিংসাবশত সেখানেই রয়ে গেছে নৌকাটি পাহারা দেবার জন্য। তাই ওইদিকে এমনকি ওইদিকের কোনো রাস্তা দিয়ে কেউ গেলেও তাদের ছায়ামূর্তি বিভিন্নভাবে ভয় দেখাবার চেষ্টা করে।

অন্য একটি ঘটনা একটি মন্দিরকে ঘিরে। মিছরি পাড়ায় অবস্থিত ২১ ফিট উঁচু বৌদ্ধমন্দিরটির উপর অশুভ কিছুর প্রভাব আছে বলে শোনা যায়। রাস পূর্ণিমা ও মাঘী পূর্ণিমায় সাগর জলে স্নান করতে আসা মানুষের মতে মন্দিরটি অভিশপ্ত এবং অতৃপ্ত ও অপঘাতে মারা যাওয়া আত্মারা নির্দিষ্ট রাতে ওখানে এসে শয়তানের পুজো করে। এভাবে বুদ্ধের বিরোধিতা করে তারা। যদিও অনেকে এটিকে গুজব ভাবেন। তবে এই ধারণাটি অনেক বছর পুরনো। কুয়াকাটা সৈকতের একটি অংশ রাখাইন বসতির মাধ্যমে অভিশপ্ত বলে শোনা যায়।

এমনিভাবে দেশের নানা স্থানকে ঘিরে প্রচলিত আছে ভৌতিক ও অতিপ্রাকৃত ঘটনার। এগুলো কারো কাছে সত্য, কারো কাছে নিছক গুজব আবার কারো কারো বিশ্বাস দোদুল্যমান সত্যমিথ্যার বেড়াজালে। এইরকম আরোকিছু ভূতুড়ে জায়গা ও সেগুলোকে ঘিরে প্রচলিত লোককাহিনী নিয়ে দেখা হবে লেখাটির আগামী পর্বে।

Kuakata is a land of beauty, known as the 'Daughter of the Sea'. Kuakata beach is the only beach in South Asia from which both sunrise and sunset can be seen. There are various ghost stories surrounding this 20-kilometer-long and 6-kilometer-wide beach.

A father and son from Muisulipara went to the deep jungle of Gangamati to catch fish and collect firewood. Since there is no fresh water in the sea, they started digging in the soil to quench their thirst. At one point, their spade hit something hard. They found a wooden jar with a golden coating and some crafted gold leaves. After digging further, they found an old boat loaded with gold and precious stones embedded in the sand. Since it was almost sunset, they decided to stop their work and return home like they had done that day.

They left the next morning thinking that they would return to work again. But no new morning came in their lives. On the way back, the father and son died mysteriously. Legend has it that the gold-laden boat is cursed, and anyone who searches for it will die of a heart attack. Some other incidents have strengthened this belief of the locals.

It is also said that the spirits of the father and son remain there out of jealousy to guard the boat. Therefore, even if someone passes by that side or any other road, their shadows try to scare them in various ways.

Another incident revolves around a temple. It is said that the 21-foot-high Buddhist temple located in Mishri Para is haunted by something evil. According to people who come to bathe in the ocean water on Ras Purnima and Maghi Purnima, the temple is cursed and the souls of those who died of heart attacks and heart attacks come there on certain nights and worship the devil. In this way, they oppose Buddha. Although many consider it a rumor. However, this idea is many years old. A part of Kuakata beach is said to be cursed by the Rakhine settlement.
